microWIU™
The Micro Wayside Interface Unit (microWIU™) is a compact, digital interface unit designed for reliable transmission of both vital and non -vital data between wayside equipment and central systems.
Wayside Monitoring for Positive Train Control
The microWIU™ vital I/O processor is a key component in Positive Train Control (PTC) systems, supporting both ITCS and ACSES operations. It monitors the status of wayside signaling equipment and transmits this data through the PTC network to an approaching train’s On-Board Computer (OBC). The OBC uses this real-time information to enforce safe train operation based on track conditions and signal status.
The microWIU performs a continuous one-second system cycle that includes reading vital inputs, updating parameters, executing vital logic equations, and updating both vital results and non-vital outputs. These processes are consistent across all PTC operating modes, ensuring dependable and safe system performance.
