To manage this risk, railroads typically rely on weather forecast data to determine when to increase inspections or enforce speed restrictions. However, weather data is often imprecise, lacks real-time updates, and impacts operations across broad areas – many of which may not actually require intervention.

Rail TempEst™ provides a smarter, more precise solution by using track circuit data to measure actual rail temperature in real time. This method delivers more accurate and localized temperature readings than traditional weather forecasts.

By identifying where and when rail temperatures become unsafe, Rail TempEst enables railroads to apply speed restrictions more selectively – reducing unnecessary slow orders and improving operational efficiency. In many cases, this level of detail allows for safer and more cost-effective operations.
